The Sponty What?

The Sponty What?

Studio! The Sponty Studio, to be precise, is an online marketplace for high-end beautiful furniture that is made with sustainability in mind. The conception of this platform came from a single issue faced by founders, Laura and Eve: Nice furniture is rarely sustainable, and sustainable furniture is rarely nice. This just didn’t make sense to us. When we think of sustainability, we think durable, high-quality, well-made, ethically sourced quality materials, careful and efficient production. A lot of these buzzwords can be applied to high-end furniture as well. So why isn’t this mainstream?

We’ve set out on a mission to find these items and brands, and give them the recognition they deserve. There are many businesses out there, like us, that feel a strong sense of responsibility towards the planet and its climate and they are doing incredible work in terms of business practices, discovering new purposes for waste products, improving working conditions for their staff, etc.

Sustainability is no longer just a trend—it's a necessity, especially in the furniture industry, where environmental impact is significant. At our core, we believe that eco-friendly practices and stunning design can coexist. Our mission is to make sustainability the industry standard without sacrificing quality or aesthetics.

The traditional furniture industry relies heavily on unsustainable practices, including deforestation and resource depletion. This is worsened by the rise of “fast furniture,” where low-quality, disposable pieces quickly end up in landfills. It's estimated that 22 million pieces of furniture are discarded each year in the UK, contributing to environmental pollution and landfills. According to research from The British Heart Foundation, up to 50% of the furniture waste are usually items with need of only slight repair or that could have been reused and recycled

Furniture production also uses energy-intensive processes, often dependent on fossil fuels, and the transportation of heavy pieces creates a substantial carbon footprint. By focusing on sustainability, we aim to address these challenges head-on, ensuring that furniture can be both beautiful and environmentally responsible.

We are dedicated to making sustainability the foundation of everything we do, from the brands we work with to the way we make our coffee.

  1. Regenerative Materials
We prioritise responsibly sourced, renewable materials like FSC-certified timber, reclaimed wood, and recycled fabrics. Our focus is on minimising resource consumption and promoting healthier homes through non-toxic finishes and low-VOC paints.
  2. Durability and Timeless Design
Sustainability is also about longevity. We offer timeless, high-quality furniture that’s built to last, avoiding short-lived trends and reducing waste. By focusing on durable materials and design, we promote a circular economy that values reuse and repair.
  3. Local Craftsmanship
Wherever possible, we partner with local brands to reduce carbon emissions associated with shipping and to support local economies. By sourcing closer to home, we minimise the environmental impact of long-distance transportation.

We believe that sustainability can elevate design, not hinder it. Our pieces are crafted to blend eco-conscious materials with luxurious style and craftsmanship, proving that environmental responsibility doesn’t mean sacrificing beauty or quality.

Welcome to the future of sustainable furniture, where design, quality, and environmental care come together.
